This year’s Movable Feasts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade will be on February 4, 2017
What is a Movable Feast?
The inaugural Movable Feast (previously known as the Progressive Dinner) was held in February 2014. The dinners are a great opportunity to get to know other parents in your child’s grade, have a fun night out without the kids, and raise money for our school. Here’s how it works: There are 3 courses: Cocktails, Dinner, and Dessert. Each course takes place at a different home within walking distance from PS 321. At each stage you will be with a new group of parents from your child’s grade. You will receive an itinerary right before the event, so all you need to do is show up on time and have fun!
How is this event possible? We need you to make this event fun and successful. First, you should be prepared to attend and have a great time meeting and socializing with parents. Second, we need hosts for each stage of the event. The more hosts we have, the more intimate each gathering can be. Last year, hosts welcomed an average of 20 people for cocktails, 12 people for dinner, and 26 people for dessert. All hosts should be within walking distance from PS 321 so parents can easily walk between homes for each course.
Look out for further updates via the red folder. Together we can make this a terrific event!
I love to entertain, but what if I don’t have room to host? You probably do have enough room! Remember how many people used to fit into your dorm room for a party? But if you truly don’t have room to host, we can pair you up with a host that may have the room, but is less comfortable entertaining and would love your help.
What if I have the room, but I’m not so comfortable entertaining? See above!
What if I don’t want to host, but would love to help out? We’d love your help. Email us.
Do I get to go to the other courses if I am a host? Of course! Leave the dishes for later and move on to the next course. If you are hosting one of the later courses, we will do our best to assign you to another party nearby so you can get home in time for your guests.
I am shy, can I choose where I go and with whom? Nope. Although partners or spouses won’t be separated, the whole point of the event is to meet and get to know new people. And everyone will be in the same boat. Think of how many more parents you will know at the school after attending this event!
What should I serve if I am hosting dinner? Anything that works for you and allows you to socialize with your guests: soup and sliders, make your own tacos, chili and cornbread, a theme dinner…whatever you think will be fun and delicious. We can brainstorm together at the host party.
I am on a Paleo diet…can you accommodate me? We want to make sure that everyone can join in the fun, however it isn’t possible for all dietary restrictions to be met. There will be vegetarian options. If you have a very strict dietary requirement, please let us know and we’ll work with you to figure out a way that you can enjoy the event.
I am terribly allergic to cats, does my host have one? We want you to enjoy yourself, so please let us know if you have any severe allergies that will get in the way of your having fun and we can work together to accommodate your needs.
If I host, how much will this cost me? As a host, you will incur costs that will be a much appreciated donation for this fundraising event. You (and your partner or spouse) will not be required to purchase tickets for the event.
How can I find out more about the event? Email us with any questions by clicking on our names below (please be sure to contact the parents representing your grade).
