The P.S. 321 Diversity Committee invites you and your child to collaborate in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day & Black History Month! From January 19th through February 24th, we will create A Quilt of Heroes – highlighting heroes of African-American history, civil rights and social justice. All of our individual quilt squares will be combined into a school-wide quilt, which will grace the P.S. 321 lobby.
It is easy to participate: 1) Request a paper quilt square from your teacher or grab one from the box in the main office; 2) Choose to learn about a specific hero of black history, social justice and/or the African-American civil rights movement (suggested list of heroes, internet resources and dates/times of special open library times are provided with your square); 3) Put your hero’s name on your square and add your own artwork illustrating and/or inspired by the accomplishments of your chosen hero; 4) submit your completed square to your teacher or to the box in the main office by February 24th.
Students will receive recognition of participation. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
