As many of you know, Simone Dinnerstein—a PS 321 alumna, former PS 321 parent, and world-renowned classical pianist—initiated and coordinates our Neighborhood Classics Concert Series. This series, which brings three classical concerts to PS 321 each year, is a wonderful experience for our community as well as a significant fundraiser, since all the musicians donate their time.
Simone has been working with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra in Cuba. She has recorded an album with them that will be out on Sony in May. The Orchestra will have a residency in New York from June 6 through 12, including a performance at Celebrate Brooklyn, on June 10, and some school-day performances for the children at PS 321 on June 9. WE ARE REACHING OUT TO 321 PARENTS AND STAFF TO GET A SENSE OF THE NUMBER OF FAMILIES AND STAFF MEMBERS WHO WOULD BE ABLE TO HOUSE THE CUBAN CHORUS MEMBERS. There are 40 members of the chorus, who range in age from 18 to 40. Simone is looking for volunteers who have an extra bedroom where they could house 1 or more members of the chorus. (We realize that many people do not have an extra room!) The host does not need to provide any meals or entertainment; just a place to sleep.
Although we are not asking for a definite commitment, please email Deb Orr at Parentcoordinator@ps321.info if you think you would be able to house one or more of the chorus members for these six days, or if you know of someone else in the neighborhood who might be able to do so. If you do respond, please include the number of beds available for chorus members.
Thanks for considering this request!
