This year, the PS 321 Diversity Committee joined neighborhood school Brooklyn Free Space to co-host “Raising Race Conscious Children,” a three-part series of workshops for parents and caregivers. Run by Sachi Ferris and Lori Taliaferro Roddick, who co-founded raceconscious.org, the series focuses on the importance of discussing race with our children. The first two workshops, which took place in January and March, gave participants language and tools to help begin and navigate these conversations in age-appropriate ways. The third workshop—May 15th at Brooklyn Free Space, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm—will continue strengthening these skills. The goal is for participants to take this conversation beyond our own homes and out into our communities. As the website states, “If we commit to collectively trying to talk about race with young children, we can lean on one another for support as we, together, envision a world where we actively challenge racism each and every day.”
All are welcome at the third and final workshop. To sign up, click here.
