Dear PS 321 Families,
I hope you are staying healthy and managing.
As you know, this week teachers are working hard to transition to Google Meets as a platform for live teaching. I know that it has some issues that are causing frustration for some families. We are trying to work out some of the problems and are in close touch with Google Meets to see if they can help us. We realize that it is not as user-friendly as Zoom, but as you know, at this point we are prohibited from using Zoom due to privacy issues. We are hoping that perhaps in the future these issues will be solved, but we have been told that it is unlikely that this will happen within the next few weeks.
Please continue to reach out to Nuri Bey for technical support, but understand that she may not be able to get back to you immediately due to the volume of requests. We are quite sure that the longer we work with Google Meets, the more comfortable we will all be with it, and that is already beginning to happen.
The Chancellor’s office is asking parents to complete a remote learning survey to give your feedback, and I strongly encourage you to do this before May 1. You can go to https://www.schools.nyc.gov/RLsurvey. If you do not have access to the internet to complete the survey online, you can call 311 to take the survey via phone.
n addition, the deadline for applying to get a DOE IPAD is Thursday, 4/23, so please make sure you complete this form if you are still in need of a device: Remote Learning Device Request Form.
If you submit a request form by 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 23, and your student is deemed eligible, your student will receive a device by Thursday, April 30. Families who submit their device request forms after April 23 should expect to receive their loaner devices beginning in May.
And, I want to encourage you to remember to fill out your child’s attendance form daily. This information is being collected by the Department of Education and is important.
Although it certainly can’t replace being in the school building, it has been great to go on the various Google Classrooms and see some of the wonderful work that children are doing.
Thinking of all of you!
