September 4, 2020
Dear Second Grade Families,
We’re looking forward to meeting you and your child on the first day of school. Here is a supply list. Please try to have these supplies by September 21.
For the hybrid children coming into school, we have noted below what to bring on the first day of school. Children will not share supplies and while they are not being used, supplies will be kept in children’s backpacks or on their tables. (Each child will have his or her own desk or table). We may ask you to send in some items later in the year, but this list should get us off to a good start.
For those coming into school, on the first day please bring a favorite book or two, a family photograph, and a small comfort object such as a stuffed animal (this should not be something precious or a distracting toy).
Thanks very much.
The Second Grade Teachers
2020 Second Grade Supply List
In the Hybrid Model, students should bring these to school each school day:
- Their own back pack (full name and class clearly labeled)
- A large, no-spill water bottle (full name and class clearly labeled)
- If they are bringing lunch, their own lunch box with full name and class clearly labeled
- Two clean, well-fitting face masks—one to be worn to school and one to keep in the backpack
- A small packet of tissues
- A small bottle of hand sanitizer to keep in backpacks.
In the Hybrid Model, we ask that students set up a large zipper supply pouch or plastic pencil box that they bring back and forth from school to home, keeping it well-stocked throughout the year. You do not have to bring all these items in on the first day of school—we have noted what to bring in the first day. For all-remote learners, it would still be helpful to have all of these supplies together in one place. It would ideally contain:
In addition, students in the Hybrid Model should bring the following on the first day of school:
- Crayola Markers Wide (washable)
- 12 pack of sharpened colored pencils *
(Some people like Crayola Twistables, but any colored pencils are fine.)
- 1 glue stick
- 1 pair of child scissors
- 1 small hand-held pencil sharpener
- 3 wide-ruled marble composition notebooks
- 1 big eraser
- 2 black Flair pens
(*will probably need one box or about 12 black Flair pens throughout the school year)
- 1 pack of square Post-It notes
(*will probably need 4 to 6 pads of Post-Its throughout the school year)
- Six 2-pocket folders, labeled with full student name and the subject
- Writing: blue
- Math: orange
- Science & social studies: green
- Reading: yellow
- Quiet Time: purple or white
- Word work: red
- 5-6 sharpened pencils
(*will likely need 24 sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga pencils throughout the school year)
- 2 black fine-tip dry erase markers
- (*will probably need 6 to 8 dry erase markers throughout the school year)
- a piece of felt or a small, clean old sock (to be used as a dry-erase board eraser)
- 3 gallon-size zip lock baggies
We would also like all students to have the following and teachers will let hybrid student know when to bring them in:
- Crayola Markers Thin (washable)
- Crayola Crayons 48 pack (or 24 pack)
- 1 set of watercolor paints
For remote learning days and full remote learning students, it would be very helpful to have at home:
- A ream of white printing paper
- Access to Scotch tape and masking tape
- Access to a stapler
- A small, blank wipe-off dry-erase white board (9” by 12” or 11” by 14”)
* a piece of laminated white card stock (or a piece of white card stock with a plastic sleeve over it) can work, too
We will set up times for all-remote learners’ families to pick up some items from school, including math workbooks.
