Dear PS 321 Families,
We just received an announcement from the Chancellor (at 2:02 today) that schools will be all remote tomorrow. I am so sorry for the short notice. The email did not specify how long schools will be closed. The letter from the Chancellor says, “Beginning Thursday, November 19, all school buildings will be closed and all learning will proceed remotely for all students, until further notice.” The letter goes on to say that “This is a temporary closure, and school buildings will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Tomorrow morning all children will have a morning meeting at 8:30 am on Zoom. The teachers will post the link on the Google Classroom. All-remote classes will follow their regular schedule. For Hybrid classes, as explained in my November 13 letter, ALL STUDENTS IN COHORTS A AND B WILL BE LEARNING REMOTELY EVERY DAY FOR AS LONG AS THE DOE IS ALL REMOTE. For the first two days of remote learning, as noted in that letter, teachers will teach whole class lessons and will not be teaching the full day. They will be organizing small groups so we are set with a regular schedule that includes small groups next week. There will be no specialty classes tomorrow. These will meet on Friday for the first time and we will send you a schedule.
I am so sorry that we are at the point where we are unable to hold school in the building, and I’m hoping very much that this is a short-term closure. Although the Chancellor’s letter does not indicate this, I would imagine that school will be closed at least until after Thanksgiving.
I will write you a more detailed letter tomorrow.
Fondly,
Liz Phillips, Principal
