Dear PS 321 Families,
I was just informed by the Department of Education that PS 321 will have to close our building until January 4. I am so sorry about this. The protocol is that if there are two unrelated cases in a school that Test and Trace cannot trace to a source outside of the school, they close the school for 14 days. They have not been able to find a link between our two cases or trace them to a known cause outside of the school.
For children and families in Cohort A and B, I know how upsetting this is. And I know it is particularly hard for children in Cohort B who have had only one day in the building since November 19. I am going to adjust the January and February Mondays to equalize time in school for the two cohorts and will get you a revised schedule early next week. Hybrid learning has been going so well, and we are so sad not to be able to continue it for the rest of this month.
Health and safety is of course of utmost importance. Fortunately, the children who tested positive are not ill and are doing well. Even though we are closing, we did have close to 300 people tested on Tuesday, and it is good news that out of that, only two people tested positive. I appreciate everything that students, staff, and parents in our community are doing to keep themselves and others safe and healthy. I am awaiting the official letter from the DOE which will have additional information that I will share with you tomorrow, but I wanted you to have this information as soon as I had it.
We’re really going to miss the children in Cohorts A and B, and we will all work very hard to make sure that children have high quality remote instruction–and emotional support–during this time. I’ll be in touch again soon.
