Join us on Thursday, January 21, 7pm for a special evening with Joe Phillips, our beloved Kindergarten Music teacher!
At this event, sponsored by the Parent Equity and Inclusion Committee of our PTA, Joe will discuss his opera, The Grey Land. Joseph C Phillips Jr is the founder and conductor of his chamber orchestra Numinous and an accomplished composer, recently featured in the New York Times (HERE and HERE) for his mono opera. Tickets are available HERE and all proceeds will benefit PS 321’s arts programs.
One of the NYT Best of 2020 “Joseph C. Phillips Jr.’s “The Grey Land” is a stirring, stylistically varied mono-opera that draws on its composer’s reflections on being Black in contemporary America. The longest movement on the premiere recording makes an early textual reference to Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” while dramatizing an expectant couple’s unease in the wake of the death of Michael Brown.”
