Around The World in 80+ Minutes is the Diversity Committee’s main event of the year. Families are invited to share and celebrate their culture(s) with the entire school. On this night, children pick up a passport on entry, mark their own origins on a map and set-off to experience a trip “around the world.” The first floor of the school is filled with a multitude of fun activities that are also informative of the cultures and ethnicities represented in our PS 321 community. Parent/family volunteers plan and run each individual activity. Last year’s event included Indian henna tattoos, Japanese fan-making, Brazilian Capoiera , Australian dot painting, Guatemalan weaving, Iranian calligraphy, Spanish flamenco and World Cup soccer as well as much much more!
We seek one person to co-chair the event with our one returning Around The World event co-chair (and former Diversity Committee co-chair), Natasha Zaretsky. We also seek additional members for the ATW sub-committee; this sub-committee conceptualizes and organizes the ATW event. Importantly, we always need many volunteer parents/families who will lead activities specific to their culture(s). Finally, we will need one-time volunteers to assist as needed on the day of the event.
