Meet the Writers: Ruth Behar Visits 5th Grade

Ruth Behar was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in New York City. A Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, Ruth was the first Latina to receive a MacArthur Fellows “Genius” Award. Ruth frequently visits and writes about her native Cuba; she has written memoir, poetry, film, and edited anthologies. She is the author of several books for young readers including her latest book Across So Many Seas, Lucky Broken Girl (which won the 2018 Pura Belpré Author Award from the American Library Association) and Letters from Cuba.
