Daily Schedule

Arrival

SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:30 AND ENDS AT 2:50. Please make sure your child gets to school on time! Backyard lineup for grades 3-5 and minischool classes is at 8:25. Doors open at 8:28AM for grades 1-2 in the front and at 8:35 for Kindergarten. After 8:35AM, students in grades 1-5 are considered late. The rear school yard doors will be locked. All late students will be sent to the front desk for a late pass.

Kindergarten children are brought into their classrooms by parents/care givers. Parents in the front K classes enter through the school yard doors; parents in the upstairs K classes and K108 and K139 come in the front door. First and second graders in the main building enter through the front door at 8:28 and children walk upstairs and sit in the hall outside their classrooms until 8:30, when the teacher lets them in.   Third, fourth, and fifth grade students line up in the back yard at 8:25 and are let into the main building or the minischool by an administrator or teacher. Minischool 2nd graders wait near the minischool, enter through the middle doors and walk to their classrooms.   Note that all children are entitled to come to the cafeteria for free breakfast from 8:05-8:25.

Double parking on First and Second Streets and 7th Avenue adjacent to school is rude, illegal (between 7 am and 4 pm on school days), and extremely dangerous to children entering and exiting school buses. It also makes it difficult for staff members to depart for other commitments. P.S. 321 has asked the 78th Precinct to issue summonses to drivers who stop there.

Strollers create a hazard in our busy building, so please park them in the special stroller parking area (without babies) in the outer vestibule of the main lobby (Bonus – the Security Guard can see them).

Dismissal

K: Kindergarten students are picked up directly from their classrooms.

1: First graders are all dismissed from Exit 6, the exit to the right of the front door when you are facing the school. Parents and caregivers wait on the front stairs. Especially during the first weeks of school, this exit (exit 6) is very crowded.  Children who are not picked up on time are escorted by the teacher to the lobby and asked to sit (not stand) in the lobby.

2/3: Second graders in the main building get dismissed from two different doors on the Second Street side of the building.  Classes 220 and 225 are dismissed out of Exit 2, the door that is closest to Seventh Avenue.  Classes 201, 202, and  204 are dismissed out of Exit 3, the door that is closest to the back yard, but still on 2nd street, not in the back yard.  Those who are not picked up on time are escorted back to the lobby. The second and third graders in the mini-school get dismissed through the middle door of the mini-school.

3: Third graders in 3-306, 3-316, and 3-320  are dismissed through Exit 4 into the backyard on the Second Street side.   Third grades in 3-325 are dismissed through Exit 5 into the backyard on the First Street Side.

4: Fourth graders in all classes except 324 and 326 are dismissed through Exit 4 into the back yard on the Second Street side.

4/5: Fifth graders and 4-324 and 4-326 are dismissed through Exit 5–the back door on the First Street side.

If a child needs to leave school before the regular dismissal time (2:50), please note that the parent/guardian coming to pick up the child must come to the main office to sign the child out.  Children may not be dismissed early without an adult picking them up.

Children should not be playing ball or riding scooters in the back yard until 15 minutes after dismissal–3:05. SCOOTERS AND SKATEBOARDS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL.
