PTA Class Liaison Information

PTA Class Liaison Coordinator for 2025-26 is Cameron Amstater. Please email her with questions at pta-volunteer-2@ps321.org.

The PTA Class Liaisons, also known as Class Parents, play an important role in making PS 321 such an amazing school. As PTA Class Liaison you will build community in your class, be the connection between the PTA and your classroom, and support your teacher.

Typical PTA Class Liaison responsibilities include:

  • PTA Communications: Share the messages that I will send bi-weekly on Wednesdays and before special events starting in October with your class via email and WhatsApp. Ideally they will be sent to your class within 24-36 hours / by that Thursday night.

  • Attend PTA General Meetings to learn about what is going on at PS 321 and share the information with your class.

  • Attend both PTA Class Liaison Meet-ups (10/9/25 and 2/6/26).

  • Volunteer and encourage others to volunteer at PTA-led events and to support FUND321!

  • Support your teacher: Each teacher is different so find out how you can best support your teacher this year! Some teachers will seek support in communicating announcements and reminders to families for classroom activities and/or organizing field trip chaperones, in-classroom activities or celebrations, volunteers for additional teacher support, etc.

  • Build community in your class: scheduling meetups for kids & families in your class to build community outside of the classroom – connections out of the classroom build stronger connections inside the classroom. We encourage you to organize your class to attend the upcoming PS 321 Back to School Picnic on September 26th together!

  • Holiday and end of year gifting: You will also be collecting contributions from your class for holiday and end of year gifts for your classroom teachers and the school staff. I will reach out in November and May with instructions including specific gift-giving guidelines and sample emails to use.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

What if there is no contact info listed on my Class List?

Some parents choose not to release their contact information to the Parent Teacher Association. You’ll know this is the case if your Class List is incomplete (email addresses missing for some families). Speak with the classroom teacher and figure out how that family will be notified of important policies, events, and so forth. Please note that sometimes the problem is a language barrier. If you have non-English-speaking families in the class, the PTA can help you find a translator.

What if someone comes to me with a problem regarding the teacher or the classroom?

Parents should always be encouraged to contact their classroom teacher directly with any concerns or problems. As a Class Liaison, you act as a liaison between the teacher and the other parents in the class for organizational and informational purposes. You also have more of a direct point of contact with Deb, the Parent Coordinator. If someone comes to you with any concerns or questions about the class/school, please ask them to share their issues with the teacher or with Deb Orr.
